“AI will help us by automating the routine tasks, so we can focus on what really matters: understanding users, creating experiences that engage them, and solving their most pressing problems.” – Jared Spool

The rise of AI is creating new opportunities within digital product design, offering designers new ways to support and enhance the design process when applied thoughtfully and with clear purpose.

I’ve deepened my understanding of AI in design through the Interaction Design Foundation (IDxF) 'AI for Designers' course, expanding my knowledge of how AI can assist across areas such as user research, data analysis, early proto-personas, competitor research, ideation, quick prototyping, and more. This enables a stronger focus on strategic design thinking, problem solving, and creative decision-making, while also strengthening collaboration with engineers as products evolve and are refined. It also creates more space to focus on UI and interaction details, as well as often overlooked areas such as empty states and edge cases.

At the same time, I believe AI should never be introduced into products simply because it’s the latest trend. The most valuable use of AI comes from genuinely improving experiences for people and solving real user problems in meaningful ways.

Human-centred design, critical thinking, accessibility, and a deep understanding of user needs remain central to my approach, ensuring AI is used to support and enhance the design process rather than replace the human insight and empathy that make great experiences possible.

I’ve been playing with Claude Code, using it to design, refine, and build quick prototypes for a pro bono project, and to create a small experimental UX/UI web tool as a way of exploring interaction and interface ideas using AI (and still a little bit of Figma in the process)

I’d love to chat about how I can help you. Say hi over email.
